December 2014

Allan and Anne Kitt

Dear Friends,

As we come to the end of another year, we're thankful for all God's blessings, and want to thank those of you who pray for us and our work here in Le Havre.

2014 has been an enjoyable year in so many ways. In March we were thrilled by the arrival of a new grand-daughter, Odeya Joy, born to Rachel and Eddy fifteen months after their stillborn son. Her immediate family have enjoyed eight months of smiles and cuddles, and the rest of us are glad to share in their joy.

On a much sadder note was the death of Allan's Mum in May. She was 93, and had suffered ill-health for several years.

Positive notes in church life include the baptism of three young people, all from the same family, in the summer. Many friends and people from the wider family circle were present. Please pray for the ongoing witness of the family to them. (It was an eventful day, as the family had their basement flooded in the morning!)

Other encouragements are fairly regular visits on Sundays from some interested "inquirers", and the steady rise in numbers at the monthly women's meeting. The new university year brought some extra students, too: Mexicans and another Korean! We appreciate their presence, and pray that their stay in Le Havre will benefit their Christian lives as well as their studies. We were also glad this year to welcome Christian visitors from the UK and from elsewhere in France.

We continue to look for ways to reach out to the community around our building. Several children and young people came to a "goûter" (afternoon snacks), when they particularly enjoyed crêpes and chocolate spread! We hope to repeat this on the Saturday before Christmas, with suitable activities to share the wonderful story of the Saviour's birth. Then on Sunday 21st will be the special Christmas service, to which friends are invited. 2015 should see more work done on the church building, especially for access for handicapped people, and other renovation work.

Please pray for wisdom in all the details and decisions to be taken.

Allan is kept busy with collating and editing material for the calendar of Bible readings and meditations. This work takes him twice a year to the Lyons area, where he takes the opportunity to visit the assembly in Villefranche-sur-Saône. They now have a French full-time worker, and there are several new "faces" since we left three years ago. It's good to see the hall well-filled!

Our family are well. Stephen and his family have moved house this year, and are enjoying their new home. Rachel and Eddy are busy with the ministry to students in Besançon. It's now a year since Jonathan moved to Clermont-Ferrand, and he's settled down well to his new surroundings.

We had a great holiday in Scotland this summer, enjoying lovely weather most of the time, especially for a short stay in Mull. Beautiful scenery, although Allan couldn't take it all in it as he learnt to concentrate on those single-track roads! One situation in which our left-hand-drive car wasn't a handicap! We plan to be back for three weeks in March, and hope to see some of you then. This will be a working visit, with a busy schedule of meetings for the length of our stay.

May God bless you abundantly with a happy Christmas and his presence with you throughout the months ahead.

Yours in Christ,

Allan and Anne Kitt
