Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Jesus Christ our Lord is faithful

1 Corinthians 1:9

Going Forward

Once again we enter into a new year, although for some it seems to happen with rapid regularity. Whatever our age or experience in life there will be challenges, local, national and international, to face during the course of the year. It is good though to remember that for the Christian we do not advance on our own strength, we look to the Lord Jesus Christ for His help and presence to be with us. It may be difficult to be a person of faith today, but we are encouraged to be steadfast in our trust in our Saviour. We live for Him; we speak of Him, particularly to a sceptical world in which we live. Be encouraged to be faithful and to be a light in the darkness and to be the salt that can put in flavour. Allan and Anne Kitt give thanks for the increased attendance since last year at the two Christmas services including a number of unbelievers who came. Please give thanks for the opportunity for those who attended to hear the gospel.

Echoes of Service

The response to this huge wave sweeping our shores varies. Some want to shut the doors and exclude those who are in great need, often driven by fear of the unknown or potential terrorism. Others react with indifference, delegating responsibility to agencies and governments to do what is needed. As Christian people we can look at this global 'diaspora' as a great opportunity. God is bringing into our communities those who were previously unreachable, with little opportunity to encounter genuine Christian faith. They are vulnerable, often friendless, and strangers in a foreign land. Reaching out to them with the hand of friendship and acceptance, can open doors and ultimately hearts to the love of God in Christ.

A German colleague, in his home country where nearly 1 million migrants have arrived this year, shared the great opportunities they have to mobilise churches to reach the strangers in their midst. He noted that they had worked in Afghanistan for 60 years with very little response, but now they are seeing a growing network of Afghan believers in Germany. Turbulent times can be 'God's time' to reach these people groups with the gospel. Instead of allowing the mass media to shape our response to this issue, we need to look at this through the eyes of Jesus, our Lord. He saw crowds of people who were 'harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd', ' and His response was to pray and call for workers to go out into this ' 'harvest field' ' (Matt. 9:36-38). loving hands to those in such desperation, for they need, above all, to find the Saviour.
