Bethany Update - June 2016

There's a shadow over this world, There's a shadow over everything Trouble round every bend and curve, Bearing down on me Look around; tell me, what do you see? Pain and hurt and agony If you're looking for security, You should be on your knees

Praise the One - Who made heaven and earth,
Gave sight to the blind - Shed His blood for our sins
Praise the One - Who walked on the water,
Received into heaven, and He's coming again,
Praise the One, Praise the One
You are Wonderful, Marvelous, Glorious,
Powerful, Savior, Almighty God

David Rives

People were delighted with the wonderful things He was doing

Luke 13:17

The Father has sent His Son to be the Saviour of the world

1 John 4:14

At the time of writing you may be overwhelmed by facts about Europe, in or out. One fact that is worth remembering is how the gospel came to the continent. Paul came to Philippi and with no synagogue to go to went to the river and there we discover that Lydia became a Christian, the first convert in Europe. We read of other countries that Paul visited, Greece, Italy and even ambitions to travel to Spain. Nations that we are still familiar with today, that still need the gospel to be proclaimed in all its power. There is in spite of everything, a great opportunity to share the Good News. We can pray for those who will go on summer mission, particularly on GLO teams, to various destinations. It would be wonderful if many Europeans turned to Christ in faith this summer. That would be something that would make a lasting impact and we could praise God for.

The pre-camp trip to Lapwing Lodge last month went well despite mixed weather. The next pre-camp event is the Camp Coffee Night will be held at Dimity Street Church on Friday 10th of June. Please continue to pray for speaker Iain Cunningham, the leaders and campers as they prepare for camp.

Mission Focus

At our May Mission last month we looked at the country of Kenya, learning about the many unreached people groups in the country and the need to tell them the gospel. We also watched a DVD highlighting the persecution of Christians in Kenya. Despite everything they has suffered, it was challenging to see how they remained committed to serving the Lord Jesus and could forgive those who have harmed them greatly. The Powerpoint presentation of the Kenya Mission Focus is on the Bethany website. At June's Mission Focus we will look and learn at what summer missions are taking place across the county and what to pray for.

Bible Teaching

During the month of June we will be hosting the joint services at Bethany. The first service will be Sunday 5th June with Derek Malcolm, who will be giving a report. The speakers for the rest of the month are Ken Cunningham, Hamilton Welsh and John Buchanan. The joint services in July will be at Kilnside and in August will be at Renfrew.
